All About Toothbrushes

Quite possibly the most instrumental tool in keeping your teeth clean and healthy is a toothbrush. There are two main types of toothbrushes – traditional and electric. Is one better than the other? How often should I replace my toothbrush?
You can find them at any grocery store and they come in all different colors, but the size and shapes typically remain the same. Though most toothbrushes are alike, two things to keep in consideration when making a purchase are bristle stiffness and the size/shape of the head. First, the bristles should be softer. If the bristles are too hard and stiff, they may end up damaging your teeth. In terms of the size of the head of the toothbrush, a smaller and more compact size may allow for better access to certain teeth – and an overall better cleaning.
However, one may be inclined to believe that an electric toothbrush will be more effective. According to GuardianDirect, data has confirmed that there is no significant benefit to electric toothbrushes. With that being said, if you struggle to brush for long enough, some have a timer that will help.
One final question is when you should replace a toothbrush. The American Dental Association recommends replacing a toothbrush within three to four months or when the toothbrush begins to look worn – whichever comes first. Toothbrushes should also be stored in an upright position to ensure that the dry efficiently. If not stored correctly, you risk the growth of bacteria on the toothbrush.
