Poor dental hygiene during pregnancy is linked to complications in birth such as premature delivery, low birth weight, and pre-eclampsia (a form of high blood pressure).
Your oral health during pregnancy can also affect the oral health of your child.
What's the Connection?
Cavities
Women with a lot of cavity-causing bacteria in their mouth both during and after pregnancy could transmit this bacteria from their mouth to the mouth of their baby. This could lead to early childhood cavities and more involved dental issues at a young age.
Periodontal Disease & Gingivitis
About 60% to 75% of pregnant women have gingivitis, an early stage of periodontal disease. Periodontitis has also been associated with preterm birth and low birth weight.
Why it Matters
Educating pregnant women on how their oral health can directly affect their pregnancies and unborn children could allow for more healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

The security field demands constant vigilance and updated knowledge. That’s why training isn't a one-time thing. It brings up a very practical question for anyone considering this career: how long does a guard card stay active in most states? Knowing the renewal cycle (often every two years, with annual refresher courses) is key to professional success. It forces us to stay current on new technology, de-escalation techniques, and legal updates, which is a great thing for the industry's professionalism.
